Hello!

I’m in my second trimester with baby number 2 and my hips are getting really sore at night in bed already. I ended up sleeping on the couch in the last months of my first pregnancy because the pain became excruciating at night. Does anyone know of anything that might help to nip this in the bud?
Many thanks MoMs xxx

  • Sounds like sciatica – pain shoots down your leg. I’ve been doing prenatal yoga when I can but I find trying not to do too much is the only thing that stops it. Bending can trigger it for me and sleeping with a pillow between my legs. Can always try a pregnancy massage. I nave a toddler so rest times are limited – be kind to yourself. Dr told me should resolve itself after baby is born

  • I was going to suggest a body pillow but just saw your update about sciatica! How painful and no wonder you’ve lost sleep. How has physio helped?

  • A pillow between your knees, a pillow under your bump when you lay on your side. It’s the only thing that saved me when I had my twins. Sciatic pain made me cry getting into bed, moving in bed, getting out of bed. As many pillows as comfortable, to keeps your legs propped apart and align your hips. The pillow under your tummy stops your bump pulling your hips out

  • You poor thing… I used extra extra soft fluffy pillows between my legs at night lying on my side – of course lol. Hope it helps, good luck with everything.

  • Thanks ladies. Great answers. I believe the problem to be sciatica unfortunately so my doctor has recommended physio. I haven’t slept in weeks and I’m only 16 weeks along. Lol. Thanks MoMs xxx

  • I slept on my side with a pillow between my legs, and sometimes on a recliner (I was lucky enough to have one). I had a friend who slept on her back and put a pillow under her knees. Maybe try a heat pack on the area also? Good luck :)

  • Is it possible that the baby is lying sideways instead of his/her head upwards. A friend of mine is having the same problem. Her obst. managed to turn the baby but the stubborn one turned back within 5 minutes. She is seeing a physio and as she loves swimming goes in a pool. Sometimes she just walks in the water. She finds she gets a lot of relief from that. She is suffering pain day and night. Night is more incovenience as it interferes with your sleep. If using a wheatbag I suggest you find out what is in it besides wheat. Some substances are not considered safe during pregnancy. They all have another substance to prevent the moisture released during heating to stop it from going mouldy.

  • I would suggest a heat bag you now the ones filled with wheat, but make sure its not to hot as it might et a upset relpy for bubs.

  • I slept with a pillow between my legs and that seemed to help. Also maybe some magnesium supplements might be the go. All the best!

  • I bought my DIL a pregnancy pillow that helped her out through her pregnancy. It was a S shaped one & she began sleeping more comfortably than without one.
