He is so depenant on me it’s crazy. I have tried leaving straight away, i have tried staying a little, i have tried bribing and now i’m stuck. Every week it is the same thing. We prepare him on Sunday for Monday morning and he starts complaining and crying straight away. He keeps telling me he loves me and to not leave and it breaks my heart but this mumma needs some time out. No family to help either.

  • I would say just keep at it, it’s hard on you as a Mum, maybe try doing something fun after you pick him up in the afternoon, or a rewards chart. Or I’ve found that if you just sit them down and talk to them and explain the situation like your not leaving him because you don’t love him etc. with the rewards chart tell him if we have a good day when I come and get you we will do something special just the two of us etc. main thing is just keep at it, he will eventually relax and one day you will drop him off and he will hug you and say good bye without any drama

  • All you can do is stick with it. My son was the same. I used to turn around to wave good bye, he was plastered up the fence or glass door, bawling his eyes out. It was so hard :,( Here it is over 20 years later and I can still see his tear stained face and hear him calling out for me not to leave him. Breaks my heart to this day. He did eventually settle, but never really liked school. His sister was the total opposite. She would tell me I didn’t have to take her, she would catch the bus. Then we would get there, and she told me not to get out of the car or ‘you can leave now.’ She loved it. Breaks my heart that she didn’t need me, breaks my heart that my son needed me so much. Mums just never feel good about sone decisions

  • strict routine, start off with short time gradually build it up to the time you need

  • Yes make the goodbye short and sweet, reassure them you will see them very soon.

  • As long as I’m in the picture at childcare, my girlie plays up as well. As soon I’m gone, she’s fine without me. I give her big cuddles at home before we leave and tell her I love her and make the goodbye at childcare short and quick.
