Hello!

My 10 month old daughter has had an ear infection and refuses to swallow her antibiotics, she dribbles it all out once it is in her mouth, she will take Nurofen though, any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Squirt it directly down the back of her throat. Or try mixing it with her food or drink. Where there’s a will there’s a way

  • The trick is to squirt it to the back side of her mourh

  • i found i had to place the medicine into the side of bubs mouth and then blow so they would have no choice but to swallow. its tough and a bit mean but its for their benefit.

  • Just a little bit at a time, making sure she swallows it.

  • Hide it in something, in food or a drink

  • maybe mix it with nurofen if your doctor says its ok. my little one usually wants something that she sees me enjoying so also pretend to have some yourself.
if all else fails there is the mean way use the syringe to push down your babies tongue and squirt the medicine down her throat so she is unable to spit it out, she will automatically swallow it. I do not recommend this however it really is only a last resort but sometimes it just must be done sadly.

  • My son was scared of it at first. I was a bit cheeky and gave some cordial to my son in a syringe, and because she copies everything he does, do quite happily took it!

Also, let them play with a bit first. Try not to force them, as it will make them fear it.

    Good luck!

  • the syringe is good and you can try to mix it in milk or juice

  • I always use the syringe and then I give the syringe to my daughter to hold or play with but with my supervision and this has been a great result so they think it’s not bad after all.

  • My little man takes medication twice a day, we use syringes as it is in liquid form. He has gotten used to it but at first, like other Mums have said- we sqinted it at the side of his cheek. Worked a treat, now he takes anything.

  • Maybe trick her and put the medication in the nurofen or bribe her i know usually if i bribe my kids sometimes it will work sometimes you just have to force them to take it

  • thank you for your careing suggestions …much appreciated and helpful

  • I usually bribe with a piece of fruit afterwards or a teaspoon of ice cream not always appropriate but if it gets the job done :)

  • If liquid put it in her bottle. If tablet grind and mix in with baby food. Hope this helps Jeannie

  • Try mixing it with any fluids she drinks. I have the same problem with my daughter but she refuses all sorts of medication and still til now and she’s 5yrs old. She throws it right back up and I’ve mixed it in lots of different things and she knows even when she was very little.. Have u spoken to the doctor about this?
