A friend of mine did a short course through TAFE (I think) after uni. She had already travelled a little bit so she had some good background knowledge. She ended up getting a job with Singapore Airlines instead of an agency.
I am a Travel Agent and Flight Centre is a good place to start. No formal qualifications needed as they train you however you do need to have travelled and / or have good geographical knowledge. It is base salary and commission based however they guarantee a set first year wage to ensure you don’t earn nothing.
Most don’t ask for qualifications and you can learn on the job. Though in saying that, if you want to be competitive when it comes to getting your foot in the door, you can do an online course to show you are dedicated to this job.
My mum owns a travel agency and usually looks for ppl who have done a tafe course for travel agents or some places will pay for you to do the online course. It teaches you the programs and codes that they use. Best of luck
most of the time you don’t need a lot of experience – they usually just prefer you have travelled to several countries. other than that I think you can do a cert iii in travel & tourism (or similar) at TAFE.
