Hello!

“How do I get my 6 month old interested in solids? She will grab food off our plates but as soon as you give it to her she’s not interested. We are starting baby led weaning. We had no luck with purées, she would open her mouth for the first spoon then would not open again. Thanks”

  • Follow your babies queue, your baby will show when she’s ready and playing with food is part of the process

  • All babies take their own time to accept and digest solids. It is a new sensation to them, just keep experimenting with different tastes and when ready it will be accepted. There is no set rule.

  • No two children are ready for solids at the same age, so it’s just a matter of trying different “solids” every now & then, until you find something the little one likes. Before you know it, they’ll be eating like there’s no tomorrow.

  • Wait til she’s ready, just try every few days. My second one wasn’t interested til about 61/2 months.

  • Babies don’t really enjoy it the first few times and every time you introduce a new food they usually pull faces. I give my 7 month old a toy to hold and I get as much in while she’s distracted but most of the time she’s a great eater and has a big appetite.

  • It can be a very hard road. I started both of my bubs at 4 months, my daughter just opened her mouth straight away but with my son it was full of challenges. Now he’s 8months and won’t stop eating.

  • How did it all go in the end?

  • The texture feels strange for them, so it can take several goes before they start eating it.

  • Did your 6 month old eventually get interested in solids?

  • If they are not interested don’t push them, my daughter didn’t start solids until she was interested and it was about 8-9 months of age

  • Hope its going well for you. I found giving a little ‘sampling plate’ of different fruits and raw veges was good. That way they can play around with the food, taste it, get used to the different flavours and textures.

  • Jus give itself food and she will take it by the sounds of it. Lol
I played one of my daughters fav shows. (always hidden until food time) she was so distracted by what she was watching she didn’t realize wot she was eating

  • Be sure to give fruit, meats and veggies try be creative and different :-)

  • Try finger food it always works best :-)

  • Let her take the lead.
