We have had an accidental spill of red nail polish on our carpet, I have tried a spot stain remover with not much luck any suggestions appreciated. How do I get nail polish out of carpet?

  • I would use nail polish remover to get it out!

  • oh dear, have you tried using nail polish remover, considering it works on the nails ? Otherwise maybe try baking soda and vinegar … good luck

  • There were some great suggestions here. How did you manage the spill?

  • Haven’t had this problem but why wouldn’t you try nail polish remover. Of course you would try the remover out in an inconspicuous place first and wash remover off immediately with warm soapy water.

  • Try nail polish remover with acetone but test on inconspicuous area first.

  • depending on the pile/length of your carpet you can use a sharp stanley knife and very carefully run it from the bottom to the top of each carpet thread to scrape off any paint residue chewing gum etc. a drytron dry cleaner came to do my floors not long ago and that is his trick he showed me.

  • nail polish remover and don’t scrub, rub.

  • nail polish remover should do it

  • I used nail polisher remover on a deep pink top that had nail polish accidently spilt on it & then washed in normally & no sign of a stain on it.

  • I’d phone the manufacturer if you know the brand of carpet. They might have a solution for you. Good luck.

  • Pleasure; let us know if it works for you. :)

  • Thanks ladies I will give it ago, I just wasn’t quite game to use nail polish remover.

  • Forgot to add; use a cotton bud to gently work the nail polish remover into the nail polish. Again; do this lightly and gently.

  • I used nail polish remover to get it out of my girls bedroom carpet! Just make sure you only dab it on using a make up remover pad and test that it won’t discolour your carpet. Good luck!

  • I have successfully used acetone free nail polish remover to remove nail polish. Dab a little on a piece of carpet to test first. Good luck!
