Hello!

In the winter months black spiders make their way in through the vents in the roof. They are not big, but not really small either. I would usually spray them with Mortein, but now with a baby in the house I keep away from chemicals. What is your experience and how do you kill them?

  • Some great ideas here – I will have to give them a try.

  • I would use an out door spray where they are coming in!

  • I’ve used the Mortein indoor spray and it has done wonders.

  • I use bug bombs. They’re sprays that you set off, leave home for a couple of hours then return and air the place out. Keeps creepy crawlies out for months

  • Spray the vents outside with spray. Do it during fine weather, hopefully when the air won’t get damp too soon.–when it’s not too windy!! Watch for new spider webs and spray as they appear, preferrably early morning or in Summer as if you do it later I found the spray doesn’t always work. Also If you use an exterior clothes line they often make webs on them too. You may also find some spiders under the eaves of your house.

  • We spray the house with barrier spray every year. At every possible entrance to the house!

  • well seal the house up as much as possible and i would just vac them up when you see them lol. No chemicals and i don’t have to touch spiders lol Cockroaches get the same treatment lol

  • We ended up putting a stocking like material over all our vents in the house (purchase from bunnings etc) and have noticed a significant decrease in creepy crawlies!

  • just before winter starts I spray all vents with a 6 months outdoor spray… even around windows and doors

  • We get the house fumigated once a year – it is very effective.

  • My hubby won’t kill them – he traps them in a jar & puts them outside. That’s the only way I can keep them out of our house! Even though I hate spiders, I’m glad he doesn’t kill them as they are still live beings :)

  • I dont know if its true or not but when we have a few daddy long legs spiders in the house the black scarey spiders are very few indeed, but when we dont we are over run with the awful black spiders.
