Hello!

My 16 month old likes to squeal very loudly to get our attention and this can get very embarrassing when we are in a public setting. We do give him plenty of attention, however, he still likes to do it for every little thing that he wants i.e. if he wants a drink. This can be very embarrassing when we are out because he is very loud and people often turn around and look to see what we are doing. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and if there is a way to teach him not to?

  • My 2nd born spent 16 months shouting, turns out he was bored. Once I spelt his name he stopped shouting and began trying to learn the alphabet. Turns out he is a genius.
But if your baby is just squealing for your attention, I suggest, maybe “ignoring” him at home. Wait till he stops squealing then look at him and ask if he wants the cup etc. then say Here is the cup, when you give it to him. Maybe repeat the word cup a few times. He will eventually stop squealing for what he wants.
