Hello!

I have just noticed there is quite a build up of substance inside at the bottom of my stainless steel kettle, as well as inside the filter of the spout.
Is this safe & what should I use to clean it?
Thank you

  • There are a number of “de-scaling” products on the market – I’d use one of them. You should be able to find it in a supermarket.

  • i think you can get descaling tablets at the supermarket. very easy to do.

  • A little white vinegar to sit there for ten minutes, in kettle. Then rinse a couple of times. Boil kettle half full water tip then hopefully cleared.

  • Vinegar and bicarb !

  • I would google home remedies to find a solution.

  • I’ve read that coca cola can de-calcify a kettle. I’ve never tried it myself though.

  • buy descaling solution or vinegar is much cheaper and better for you

  • My mum used to put lemon juice in the kettle and boil it to remove the stains.

  • Citric acid works well. A teaspoon or so in a half full kettle. Boil and then rinse out well. Works just like commerical descaler.

  • squeeze half a lemon into the kettle boil let sit over night, then boil again in morning she be spotless.

  • Thanks to you all and the mum who posted this question. I was also wondering what was best to use. White vinegar it is! lol

  • There’s nothing that beats hot water and white vinegar left in the kettle overnight, then boil the hell out of it the next day. Rinse several times, then boil plain water again, and it will be clean as a new pin, with no vinegar taste.

  • Nothing beats vinegar for descaling a kettle – and so much cheaper than buying descalers etc.

  • Thanks so much for all the wonderful responses.
The vinegar worked a treat. Thanks for all the help everyone.

  • Agree with other Mums, vinegar, bicarb soda, water.
