Hello!

HOW DO YOU COPE WITH BEING STUCK AT HOME? Lisa has messaged us asking “i have a question i have a 9 week old baby and am getting serious cabin fever being stuck in the house some days i think right i need to get out of the house today and then little miss decides that she is going to have a horrid morning and noy sleep so stay home so she can get that good sleep before this i had a 9yo and 5yo so forgot how hard it was to actually get out of the house with a new bub. How do you other mums cope with being stuck in the house? Even if bub has horrible morning do you still go out and do what you have to do or do you stay home and make sure they have a good sleep eventually?” How do you cope with being stuck at home?

  • Try go for a walk atleast once a day & do something you enjoy/teach yourself a new skill.

  • I like being at home, but with sleep i would put them in the pram and go for a walk. If it was raining I would go to a shopping centre and do laps.

  • I’m a real home body so being stuck at home wasn’t an issue for me, I loved it. If I did need to go out though, I just went, sleep will happen when we get back home. Just because they’re crabby at home, doesn’t mean they’ll be like that when you’re out. Maybe bub is feeling cabin fever hit too. If she did play up and you weren’t coping, just go home and try tomorrow

  • I’ve always been a homebody and love being at home. Of course I still get out to do the shopping or catch up with friends on the weekends.

  • Absolutely get out of the house ! I remember those days and put bubs every day in the pram, walking to the shops or around a wee lake, sitting on a bench in the sun with a book or catch up with friends

  • Put Bub in the pram and go for a long walk. Prams, outdoors, movement often results in by sleeping

  • By not saying ” stuck”.
open up those curtains and windows on fresh sunny days. Put on old favourite songs at appropriate times. Dance with bub in arms when thyre alert. Have short walks. Put in a cool outfit and have a walk visit

  • Sometimes just sitting in the backyard getting some sunlight can make you feel happy again.

  • I know how some days we can almost go crazy to not beeing able to get out of our home. As harder it is I also stay at home in situations like that because I think if I go out it can be stressful at the end.
What I usually do is call a friend to chat over the phone, invite a friend over for a coffee, use Skype/FaceTime a lot, and try to stay positive making plans to go out the next day.

  • Go out of the house!! Sometimes getting out is just the medicine you and bub need and the fresh air will put an end to the horrible morning.

  • Put her in the pram and both of you get out for some fresh air. Most likely she’ll fall asleep and you can maybe get some of the things done that you wanted to do.

  • Yes! I still go out even if bub has a horrible morning! Like you I start to go stir crazy & feel sluggish. I couldn’t have survived the first months without my baby sling/carrier because even when he was being fussy he’d be happy in that. Even around the block, a look around the garden, just the fresh air and change of scenery & still now at 8 months almost I have to get out. I just put a hat on, rug up and go, there’s never a convenient time, haha! Wishing you all the best on what works for you :)

  • I still go out no matter how long it takes to get there, even if it is just a walk around the park or shopping centre. Even getting out for a coffee to break up the day, normally she will fall asleep in car or pram.

  • Find things you enjoy doing at home like scrap booking, or painting picture frames

  • take bubs for walks, meet other mothers and get fit, baby playdates
