Hello!

Hi. I was just wondering if anyone could give me some guidance. Mr almost 6 has suddenly become Mister over emotional. He will cry at almost anything! Even the smallest of things like something he was eating fell on the floor and broke. Is this a normal part of development or something I should talk to a doctor about? How do you deal with an emotional 6 year old boy?

  • Lot’s of hugs and patience. My boy goes through phases like this when he’s going through a developmental leap

  • My son is 5 and can be quite sensitive at times too. I try to always comfort him especially when he cries. It’s not easy to watch your son like this I completely get it. Just take it one day at a time I think that’s what I do. Even though I still worry about him I think they are sensitive natured boys :-)

  • Good answers! There are really interesting comments on this!

  • OMG good luck. Don’t want to scare you but my daughter started like that too. Now she’s 8 we need to see a psychologist too as it’s gotten worse. It might be a phase but may also be something more…

  • Maybe he isnt getting enough sleep?

  • He is only six i think it’s just a part of growing up.

  • Good Luck!

  • Could be something bothering him. This is an old post, hope all is sorted now.

  • My guess is it is just his age snd it will pass soon enough.

  • This is an age of a lot of change for little boys, he could jut be confused by his emotions and has trouble distinguishing happy, sad, frustrated, angry, scared. Maybe talk to him about how he feels when these things happen

  • See a doctor if your worried

  • aaww…perhaps hes just a sensitive soul.
I would love to know how hes getting on now :)

  • If this is something new, then maybe someone has been giving him a hard time at school etc or he may be worried about something (a death, sickness, a move? he could have overheard something and misunderstood it. Is he getting enough sleep, eating the right foods (not too much sugar) or is he coming down with something? It could be just a phase but if it continues, try talking to him (really listening) or take him to the doctor or school councellor. Some kids are more sensitive than others but you know him more than anyone.

  • Hopefully you will have no problems now, perhaps some feedback as to what worked for you both.

  • How is he going now?
