Hello!

We live on a rural property and, like most of Australia, we’re suffering through the first heatwave of the season. With the warmer weather comes the ants, they hang around the sink, hunting for water is my guess. I don’t particularly like the idea of spraying bug spray all over my sink and benches on a regular basis, so does anyone have a solution for what is shaping up to be a summer long battle for the kitchen!?

  • We had a problem with ants only once,l sprayed every where they were with surface spray and they never came back, thank god!

  • Talcum powder or bicarb soda around entry points is meant to stop them. I’d put surface spray around also (hopefully can avoid kitchen bench / sinks

  • I’ve heard about the talcum powder trick too – sounds like a nice eco way for the kitchen in particular.

  • great tip about the powder! block their entry point

  • Ants hate talcum powder and can’t move through it also it is not a chemical so that also is a benefit. See if you can track where they are entering in the house and put talcum powder there. Good luck.

  • Eucalyptus oil and vinegar are great ideas. I would add rock salt! Ants don’t like it.

  • I wipe everything down with vinegar, that gets rid of them

  • Have you tried surface spray around the outside of the house? I regularly use bug bombs, these seem to control all bugs for a couple of months. I have seen a natural trap for ants on here recently. Mix equal parts of bicarb and icing sugar together and sprinkle around where the ants are. Good luck!

  • Eucalyptus oil helps reduce the problem.
