Hello!

I’ve been collecting bulbs for a while now, I want to store them but I’m not sure how. I did put them in a pot loose, but they shriveled up.

  • Let the bulbs cure for a few days in a well-ventilated place on old newspapers or cardboard, then store them in a cool, dark place. Because the bulbs need a consistent cool temperature, for most home gardeners, this place is the refrigerator. When your garage is cool in enough, y=this is an option too.

  • In a paper bag and then in a cool, dark place until planting time

  • Put bulbs in brown paper bag and store in dark cupboard, till planting time

  • Keep them in a cool dark place and put them in the freezer for 6 weeks prior to planting.

  • I thought different bulbs needed to be handled differently so maybe ask at your local nursery or google for the specific bulbs you are wanting to store

  • In a brown paper bag, in the cool and dark.

  • I’m not to sure but I’ve heard brown paper bags.

  • Hi, I hope I can help. It really depends where you live, but I live in a cold state of Tasmania, Australia. I keep my tulips, and other bulbs in a brown paper bag and put them into the bottom drawer in the fridge. If you live in a warmer climate, it is best to have them in the fridge for around 6 weeks before planting, but I keep them in there most of the year. If it is an exeptionally cold winter, I put them in the pantry with DO NOT THROW AWAY OR YOU WILL BE PLANTED on the bag. Last lot got thrown out, thinking it was shrivelled mushrooms or some kind of excuse. So hubby bought me more. The pantry in the dark is a good idea, but definitely in the fridge either all year or for at least 6 weeks prior to planting. I would love to know if this helps. Another good idea is those bags the onions come in, they are good for storing various bulbs. I put a heap in sealable plastic container in paper bags too. They seem alright still. It depends on the type of bulb. Good Gardening. xxx Dee

  • Great ideas thanks ,bulbs do get expensive ,having to rebut ,Mmm.Save my paperbags ,recycling also ! Cheers .

  • I have stored them in old pantyhose hanging in a dark place in the garage.

  • Put them in a paper bag in your vegetable crisper, they last for a few a months

  • Brown paper bag in the fridge veggie crisper

  • I put mine in the crisper of the fridge and I put them in paper bags

  • You can also ask at your local nursery. I think different bulbs need to be stored differently. If keeping in the fridge, I think its only for about 6 weeks before planting, but only some varieties need this. Also, when you dig up your bulbs to store, you need to wait til the foliage has completely died back so that the bulb ha stored all the nutrients it needs to grow and flower again.

  • I have put bulbs in the refrigerator before to store. But there are numerous tips and tricks and advice on google. Just google ‘how do I store plant bulbs’
