Hello!

Two days ago my daughter caught cold and today she has had a fever. She doesn’t want to go hospital or GP clinic and she even doesn’t want any medication. What should i do? I cant force her she is above 4 and she knows everything… I feel hopeless she doesn’t even want to talk to me about her fever & cold..

  • I agree with the advice that has been offered.

  • let her sleep it off and just give her entertainment. she probably feels miserable!

  • If she has a fever I would make her have some children’s panadol and get her to rest as much as possible. Maybe try and trick her into resting by putting on her favourite TV shows or movies or doing craft.

  • I usually have pannadol every 4 hours when awake and lots of drinks and keep warm and rested for a cold. For fever wet face cloth is nice and cool shower can help to reduce fever but not cold, just luke warm. if it is just a cold it has just got to run its cause. but if at all concerned go to doctor.

  • Along with all the other great advice already offered, we keep Hydralite ice blocks in the freezer. My poor son thinks they’re a treat, but it’s really giving him the extra boost he needs!

  • I always take my kids temperature and if it’s a little high I give them some Children’s Panadol. It comes with a syringe and I let them squirt it into their own mouth. I have been known to pop it in a apple juice. Bath’s can be good to bring down a clammy child. Rest and lots of liquids. Ice blocks are great to cool sore throats.

  • Water and sleep/rest is more important if it’s just a cold.

  • let her sleep and make sure she is drinking water. If she is refusing any medication or going to a doctor can you call a doctor to come to the house, she might see them if she is comfortable with the surroundings.

  • One way to look at is if she’s refusing the dr she might not be too sick. Panadol and neurofen bring down a fever but don’t treat the cause of the fever. My daughter had one and we took all her layers off and she cooled down. I heard a damp cloth on the glands can help. If I were you I would be bargaining with her, making sure she’s not complaining about being sick or she’ll need to go to the dr, if your fever gets above 39, we’re going to have to go to the hospital etc

  • I really dont know how to treat a fever with out giving medication, but when my kids are crook i give them ice chips to suck on, they usually chew there way trough a few cups a day,at least that keeps their fluids up when they are boiiling hot as they usually go off there food for the first few days of been crook.
When its just a cold with a slight temp and they just need some time to get better, i give them warm soup, week warm tea, and i massage vicks into their feet and put socks on them and into their chest and back.
