Hello!

“I’ve stopped breast feeding after 18.5months. I’m on day 5 of not feeding and my breasts are still sore. I’d like to know how long it took for other mothers for their milk to dry up and how long will the pain last? Thanks”

  • Suddenly stopping will always cause engorgement and pain. It’s better to decrease slowly and drop feed per feed or shorten feeds gradually. You might need to express sometimes (that way you can still use this liquid gold) or when you’re under the shower stroke your breasts towards the nipple and let the milk flow away.

  • I reduced babies feeds gradually over time, that way I had minimal engorgement and pain

  • about 6 weeks is what it took for mine and that is what the nurses told me to expect – it can take a little bit less or longer depending on your body.

  • make sure you wear tight bras …

  • cabbage leaves stuffed into your bra works wonders, uncomfortable but when you are in pain its worthwhile.

  • I’m not sure everyone some but for me it about 2 weeks to dry up and pain too.
