Hello!

I don’t wear mascara often but sometimes I think mine is too old and I have heard the brush has bacteria and can irritate the eyes.

  • Most things for eye you will find expire after a month such as eye drops.
mascara after 3 months. If you are not using it very often it will help if you use disposable mascara brushes and only dunk them in the product once. Or perhaps clean the mascara wand before putting it back in the bottle but even so I still wouldnt want to hold on to the product any longer then 9mths

  • I believe you’re meant to replace mascara after six months.

  • I believe it’s six months from opening.

  • After 12 months throw it out, it’s not worth risking an eye infection.

  • To my knowledge you can only keep mascara for 12 months but in saying that i put my makeup in the fridge because I think if you keep it cool and it won’t go off as quickly.

  • I would suggest getting new mascara every 6 months or so.

  • I think mascara harbours the most bacteria , along with lipsticks. My eyes are sensitive so I can’t share any eye products and can easily get eye infections if I am not careful. Techincally they say you should throw away your mascaras after 6mths to a year , and don’t pump it with the brush as it will dry it out more . I don’t use it much now unless it is a very special occasion as not too keen on this particular cosmetics. I use eye liner more .

  • 3 to 6 months i think for mascara

  • They should be thrown out every 3 months

  • Take good care of your eyes, if the mascara is older than 90 days, bin it.

  • If it’s irritating your eyes bin it.

  • I often read you should change your mascara every 3 months. However, as someone who does not wear it that often, my Beauty Therapist has told me I can certainly use it for longer. It’s something about the air getting in the more you use it. I’d probably replace mine every 12 months.

  • I used to keep mine until it started to dry up or become clumpy (but I’m not a makeup person). Then my teenage daughter discovered my meagre makeup stash – problem solved, mum doesn’t own make up any longer. Then my toddler discovered where teenage daughter had moved said make up, and decided she wanted whiskers. Now teenage daughter is in need of some make up…….
(Thanks to the other MoMs for answering this question, great tips for me to teach my girls as they get older).

  • All depends on how often it’s used. I usually toss out after 12 months, but would be lucky to use it once a month – stay at homes don’t have the need for that much mascara hahaha

  • I would say no longer than 3 months.
If its dry & clumpy throw it out!
Your eyes are so important it’s not worth taking risks :)
