How long would you allow to settle in to kindergarten?

Hello!

Have my son at kindergarten 3 days a week.And every week his teacher tells me that he has had a rough week…today it was that he seemed to be high all day and it would run in peaks and then calm and calm hen spike. Now he is a very determined boy and very strong willed and quite smart for his age in fact he is the polar opposite of his big brother who is also teaches for kindergarten. We have only been back for 4 weeks and have had a few days of very warm weather no cooling in his room. This would be the first time he has actually been away from me for any length of time and I understand he can be a feral child…not saying he is not. He is still only 4 yrs old…I know no excuse….am I right to guess he may be tired and emotional from school or should I be getting him tested?

Given his symptoms I would have him tested, just to rule things out

Sounds a lot like my son in preschool. We eventually sought professional advice and after they assessed him he was found to be gifted but also has a sensory seeking sensory processing disorder. Sometimes seeking SPD is misdiagnosed as ADHD the difference is usually distinguishable by whether they are struggling academically or are still doing well. My son is doing OK now in second term of kindergarten. 4 is young for a boy in kindergarten. They recommended my son wait till he was 5 before starting despite being gifted because boys are more inclined to struggle with behaviour when they are younger. They say it can take a whole term for kids to adjust to school especially if they are not used to formal education settings prior to starting. If you are concerned then you could have him assessed but regardless of diagnosis try behavioural therapies before medication.
