Hello!

How much do people pay for a formal dress to wear to a wedding? And do people still wear hats to weddings?

  • Usually up to $200, but I choose styles that can be wore to multiple events to get value out it.

  • For me, I don’t usually wear dresses, so my choice would be as cheap as possible! The chances of me ever wearing it again are so slim, so I wouldn’t want to go over board. Wear a hat if you like, don’t if you don’t like.

  • Really I think it’s personal choice. Last wedding I went to I made my own long formal dress.

  • I don’t spend too much on dresses, especially if I don’t end up wearing it again. I usually look on Facebook buy sell swaps for second hand dresses

  • I’ve never worn a hat! I pay between $50-$100. I try to recycle dresses if it’s with a different crowd of people

  • There is no right and wrong about wearing any dresses on a formal occasion especially when it is a one off event . Unless you are part of the bridal party I feel these days people don’t really notice and it is best to dress comfortable and due to the long day event a pair of really comfortable shoes which I think is more important . As for hats , it is a preference , if you don’t look or feel good in one , don’t wear it at all . I wear clothing to feel good in is much more important than what people will think .

  • $80 max, don’t wear a hat though. But I usually raid my sisters wardrobe as she has more clothes then me!!

  • About $150, I don’t wear a hat

  • I agree with mum1407 saying spend as little as possible and make sure you will be able to wear it again for sure or its a waste of money!

  • Lol…..not much. I hate clothes shopping for myself and expensive clothes is even worse and a dress!?!?!? Don’t think so. If you want to wear a hat, wear a hat. Too many people obsess about what you should do, what so n so is doing, should I etc Do what makes you happy :)

  • As little as possible and make sure you will be able to wear it again

  • If you buy a dress make sure it nice and reusable, Is it a formal wedding or could just any really nice dress do with a bolero or shoulder covering/jacket to dress it up a little. Try to avoid any really bright way out there colours unless they look really good. Only my mum wore a hat to my wedding. (it dint look good on her at all). I would buy the dress first and if you find the perfect hat/ head piece to finish off go for it but if not dont stress a nice hair do is as good. I hope you find a lovely dress.

  • Dress to be comfortable and to feel good. Don’t worry if an outfit doesn’t cost a lot but you feel glamorous wearing it. Wear a big smile and ‘ think’ beautiful and this will show through!

  • Depending on your budget. I would only pay a big amount if i knew i was going to wear it more than once. In saying that i paid $300 for my wedding dress.

  • Thanks for all of the helpful answers and tips! Love the accessories tip too! Time for some shopping! :)
