I hink you need to set a budget, one that YOU can afford, and stick to it. You shouldn’t be influenced by what others do or say.

I spent $350 for a shared present between the 6 of them and then around $50 per child. For my hub I spend around $200 and then for friends $300 (I’ve no family here), so all with over $1000. Too much !!

I personally don’t have a set amount , but at the same time I dont spend a fortune on my kids at Christmas, I just don’t believe in it. There’s are so many children in this world that go without. I get my children to help me fill a shoebox with gifts for children that go without. I thinks its more important important to teach kindness and genorisity.

We spend what we can afford at the time but try and make the presents special and thoughtful.

I have 2 girls and for them I probably spend about $150 each. For my nieces/nephews around $50-$60 each.

It all depends on how old your kids are, how financial you are and all others how close they are to the family. There is no set amount

I grew up getting LOTS of presents, and I realise now I grew very unappreciative, I EXPECTED to get everything I wanted. I got some great advice that a gift is something someone wants to GIVE ME. Not something that I want that anyone can give me.

So for our kids we ask for a top 3 and that’s (usually) what they get within reason, if it’s too expensive it might be split amongst birthday/christmas or a shared “major” present.

We usually give
1. A handmade toy/craft because as my children grow they love looking back at sturdy toys that last like that
2. Their 2-3 toys they requested
3. A shared “major” present like a basketball hoop, trampoline etc.
4. A stocking filled with cheap things, pens, bouncy balls, chocolate etc.

Probably amounts to less than $200 per child.

It depends. For my daughter around 100-150 dollars. For my husband around 50. For other people no more than 20.

I wouldn’t spend more than $50.00 per child

I try to buy through out the yr and get most things on special so normally no more then $200.
For the last 2 yrs.
And for family members $50 a family.
I used to only spend $60. But boys are now 8 &10 and in to motor bikes.
We also have a birthday straight after Xmas too.

Its hard as everything is so expensive these days I am only spending on family only kids husband and my mum and dad that is all I can afford

If you do a budget and figure out what you can spend without going overboard you could spend what you want. and if you already know other parents are spending fortunes on their kids I think you will be ok with what you get your kids.
I would recommend toy shopping in the July sales as they are the best prices you will get in a year!!
I believe if you get the kids something they want and something you want them to have your child should be grateful they are getting anything at all. this is what I tell my kids.
This year I’ve told my kids they have a choice ( because they are older now ) Christmas presents…or overseas trip….I don’t need to tell you which one they chose. But I will still get them something small I’m not a total monster lol.
FYI – my children have NEVER gotten a brand name anything from shoes to clothes to toys or sporting equipment and they are happy.

Id say about 40 each member of the family. if you can get something marked down from a more expensive price. I just got my bestie a $169 ring marked down to $40 bonus!!

Stick within your budget would be my advice, dont be concerned with what the Jones’s spend. I buy a large priced item for each child (normally from Santa) – then I buy reasonably priced items to compliment the santa gift. By the time to add in what relatives will buy the children then they do end up with way too much! I also pick from the category of toys/themes that my kids are into right before christmas that way I know that what I get is actually going to be played with/worn etc – good luck and happy shopping
