  • My daughter would watch about an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon – usually Play School and other ABC Kids shows.

  • I don’t know think I’ve ever seen a two year old sitting still for any length of time so i don’t know that it can be an issue. I often had the TV on when my boys were this age but they didn’t ever sit and watch it was more for the music. They would dance or play in the area but very rarely watched it.

  • By the age of 2 some little ones like dancing or singing to the music. I was surprised how many words of the songs he knew when I put a CD on in the car before I started driving. Make sure they stay a good distance away from the TV screen at all times. It can affect their eyes. Monitor what they watch at all times. My Grandma and I used to watch Playschool and do the actions with me when I stayed with her. She learnt some nursery rhymes and other childrens songs sahe never learnt herself as a child. Living in a country area, there was no TV reception and she never went to Kindergarten so she only learnt the ones her siblings knew or what they sung occasionally at school.

  • Probably not a lot – you’d be wanting them to be playing and talking to you rather than watching TV. Having said that, sometimes you just need 5 mins to do something and the TV can be a little handy with that.

  • yeah they don’t seem to be that interested really but you can use it to help wind them down.

  • Depends on the actual age.
I find there are some really amazing educational TV shows!
I do not let the television babysit my children as I am there as well but there are a lot of great childrens programmes, Giggle & Hoot show some great arts n crafts, as does Play School.
We don’t watch more than 2 hours a day & some days we don’t watch at all.

  • I agree with 2 hrs or less a day is good!

  • I’d be going with none too. Once you start it’s so hard to limit it. Sorry :/

  • Thank you for your responses

  • Really depends on your family but here it is hardly any. There is the question what type of TV are you talking about. My younger ones will watch baby/children 15 min shows or watch part of a DVD. As for actual TV none as they are able to start realizing the ads show stuff they are not allowed.

  • its really up to you but try not to let the tv babysit your child all day, I find it useful to put on so i can have a quick shower and to get ready for the day without a kid trying to hope in as well.

  • Our early childhood centre say none for under 2 years old.

  • I would have to agree with that advice. My kids didn’t sit still long enough to watch TV, they were always off getting into something

  • Max I let my two year old about 2 hours a day (not all at once).

  • Probably too much I’m afraid. I know…..condemn me now! When we say ‘under 2′ though that’s quite broad. As a newborn and up to 1, not much at all. When she was almost at that 2 mark I’d say about 1-2 hours. Was always something educational and tailored towards kids though.
