Hello!

My family live minutes away and I find because they are close I don’t seem to make visit time now as it’s a circle of pop ins….. is anyone else the same should I try set up a regular dinner or something?

  • I think it could be nice to set up a dinner date rather than just drop in – as they never seem to have the same vibe.

  • My parents live across the other side of the country so regular visits haven’t been so regular. How long are your pop in visits? As long as you’re visiting, I’m sure your parents are happy to see you. Maybe try organise a dinner here and there

  • When I grew up we would visit our grandparents once a week and they would often visit us also once a week, but personally I think that’s quite a lot. I now don’t see mum mum often as they live in the Netherlands. I don’t know how frequently I would see them if they would be nearby. When they get older it’s good to honor them with a visit regularly as they won’t be around for ever and some older people get isolated. Pop in visits sounds good to me and besides that you could do every now and then a real visit or day out together.

  • I try to see them once a week as we live about an hour away, but we usually chat on the phone or message each other daily.

  • We see ours less too and they’re 6 and 15 mins away

  • Setting up an agreed routine/schedule is a good idea if that is what works best for you.

  • Maybe do both, organised days and times and some pop in days too.

  • Maybe you could visit them sometimes and them come to your place at others. We used to visit at weekends when all of us were together. Sometimes it was only for an hour or so butt we managed to do it. It depends whether or not your children play sports at weekends or routine if you have babies needing feeds and/or places to sleep. Sleeping is sometimes an issue if you have trouble with your little one getting over tired because of not sleeping when needed.

  • I feel I need to do this too. We live so close, but it’s hard to make the time to visit. A scheduled dinner would make this way easier.

  • Depends what you want. If you want to catch up more arrange a regular dinner/ lunch/ breakfast so it’s locked in and no organizing needs to be done.

  • Up to you and what works for you

  • My mum lives around the corner and I see her about 4 times a week. My dad lives a few blocks away and I see him once a week/fortnight

  • My parents live 15/20mins away we see them regularly (no set dinner etc) my in laws live an hour away we see them every few weeks or more offen with events.
