Hello!

We’ve recently started walking to school and my daughter loves it, she wants to walk everyday. I don’t mind as I love to walk but my three year old doesn’t always want to cooperate. Half the time I end up having to carry him home because he refuses to walk any further. I’ve been thinking that maybe a good walking stroller could be a good idea, but is he too old for it? I got rid of our pram/ strollers once my kids learnt to walk. At what age did other mumma’s stop using their strollers? I feel that he may be too old for one but it would certainly make my life a little easier.

  • My 7yr old has Down syndrome and shows this behaviour. In her case she doesn’t endure walking long distances and simply tires. This is very much the case for a normal 2 or 3 year old as well. A stroller is totally fine in my opinion and to be honest, I consider buying a special needs pushchair/ stroller for my 7yr old (whilst we in the meantime walk daily with her hand in hand)

  • A good compromise is a tricycle with one of those steering handles for the adult to use. We used one in almost exactly this situation and it was really good.

  • A push trike could be the answer, like those Smart Trikes. A lot more age appropriate and can transform into a normal trike once he has the confidence.
My daughter stopped using pram by her choice when she turned 1. At 1.5 she got a Smart Trike and loved it.

  • I bought my grandson one of those trike thingys, the ones you can take things off as they grow. They have a handle for parents to use. Maybe this is more suitable rather then buying another stroller that will last not long

  • I dont think there is an agae limit, its personal preference.

  • 3 isn’t too old for a stroller, especially if it makes life easier for you

  • If ur child’s not ready ,let them use a stroller .Sometimes there little legs can’t walk to far ,specially if bit tired .

  • My 41/2 year old still uses the stroller from time to time. While he walks most places, if I go on a walk I always take the double pram as he will use up all his energy on the way and want to be carried home! I think as long as they can fit in the stroller, you can use it!!!

  • All depends on how far you have to walk .Our 4 yr old I use stroller if a long way ,it’s up to you .But some kids cannot walk very far ,easier to take a stroller .

  • stroller or jogger for longer walks or shopping

i have bought that convertible bike for my child which they can peddle or you can lock pedals and steering and there is a handle so you can push or guide. it is great and gives them a little feeling of independance

  • I used my stroller for the school run until my son was 3. Kids get tired quickly so I found it saved us being late for school.

  • No put him in the stroller.

  • Have you tried a scooter we walk to school and my 3 year old daughter also complains about having to walk home. I bought her a scooter and she loves it no complaining now.

  • I stopped using the stroller for my son when he turned 3. But its a personal choice so do whats right for your family :)

  • My 3 year old loves to go out in her stroller every now and then now, but when she was younger she hated it, and would refuse to get into it! I often see 3-4 yr olds in strollers – no problems with it, and they will grow out of it
