Hello!

We have had our 4WD for a couple of years now and not sure when and if we need to change them? Car stuff is not really my thing!

  • Usually when you take your car in for a pink slip rego check your mechanic will also check the tyres and let you know if they need replacing.

  • Next time you take your car in for a service, they should check the tyres and let you know how many kilometres you have before they need changing. Our service mechanic does anyway

  • If you take your car to Bridgestone Tyres, they can check it for you for free. I think its every 15000kms but not a hundred percent sure .

  • yeah get it service and checked. depends how much you drive but about every 10,000 to 20,000kms depending on the quality and hardness of the rubber. Also depends on how you drive as well and if you keep them at the right air pressure etc. too many factors contribute.. only real way to tell is to get someone to look at them. you can go and buy a gauge for a few dollars from supercheap and it will measure the tread.

  • Might ask the mechanic then, they haven’t said we needed to yet so I am guessing that’s a good thing

  • We change ours when they start to wear. We have our car serviced every 6 months and the mechanics usually let us know when things start to wear

  • mom93821 is spot on again and I totally agree.

Baldy or badly worn tyres are a risk to you and the public so pop into a tyre centre and check them out. :-)

  • my mechanic always tells me when it is looking like a need new ones. If they look like they are wearing and you are concerned pop into a tyre place and ask them to check them.

  • If tyres are worn, a mechanic will not pass your car for registration until you get new tyres. A mechanic or tyre place will be able to tell you if you need new tyres.

  • I thought it had nothing to do with the age of the car, bit was simply a matter of how worn the tread was. The mechanics should be able to tell you when you get the car serviced.

  • Check your car guide as well for guidance.

  • Your mechanic should inform you about the state of your tyres when your vehicle is serviced. I would suggest going to a tyre shop and get them to check your tyres and also give you information sheets on tyres and usage. It depends on the quality of the tyres and the mileage of your vehicle and where you have driven.
