I have gone through 5 dummies in the past couple of months. Does anyone have any good tips to keep them clean and get rid of bad breath smells without using chemicals?

  • What did you end up finding that worked?

  • i would put them in a bottle steriliser

  • I put them through with the bottles in the steam sterilizer

  • or use a steriliser for the dummies

  • we used boiling water for our dummies

  • I pop my bubs in the sterlizer

  • Hope you managed to find a solution.

  • Next time you boil the jug for a cuppa, fill an extra cuppa with hot water and put the dummy in.

  • What did you end up doing?

  • I put them in a pot of hot boiling water

  • Try Running boiling water over them

  • Put them in the dish washer.

  • Try using Tri Nature’s Little One sanitiser – it does not contain chlorine and is a great product to have around the home for other things such as mouth ulcers and cuts and grazes – it is a great multi purpose product to have in the cupboard – http://www.mynaturalhome.com.au/baby-tri-nature-little-one/185-little-one-sanitiser.html

  • I used to use fresh, warm soapy water to wash my kids dummies at home.

Kmart used to sell individual dummy microwave sterilisers – I used to keep one in my nappy bag as they were perfect for outtings considering many parents rooms have microwaves in them. I think they were Happy Baby brand, but would easily fit other brands. They are for silicone dummies – I think it was called Steam’n’Go Dummy Steriliser.

  • Being a midwife, we advise parents to discard of dummies after a month and get new ones. Be careful most these days are age specific. In the neo natal unit we only use the gumdrop dummies and more specific the Hawaiian medical ones. The first sign of wear or bad smells it must be discarded.
