Hello!

Over Summer we spend so much time outdoors, but the kids get eaten alive by mosquitoes. Does anyone have any non-lotion/spray ideas to stop them getting bitten?

  • I didn’t know about peppermint oil – what a great tip! Thank you.

  • Peppermint oil!
A little bit on the back of their wrist, ankles and neck.
    Mozzies hate it!

  • Mosquito bracelets. Tit keeps them right away and if they get bitten vinegar helps the itch,

  • Mosquito bands and citronella tiki lights around BBQ/play area outside

  • id love to know to, none of us get bit except my 3 yr old who seems like a magnet to them.

  • Your local pharmacy can get bracelets or mozzie repellers like the ones in the pic. The repeller emits a noise to keep them away, I clip it to the pram and it gives about 3 meters of coverage. But if it is windy it doesn’t work as well as the noise blows away. The noise is barely audible to the human ear.

  • Tea tree oil, citronella, eucalyptus rub like Vicks all work well for keeping them away and applying to bites. Lots of vitamin B in their diet can help too.

  • From the chemist you can buy things called mosquito bands my kids wear them when we go out at night time and really keep the mozzies away. They even make adult ones

  • I won some PARA’KITO natural mosquito repellant tags – they clip to your clothes or school bags etc or come in wrist bands and are refillable. Non-toxic and works a treat!

  • I use skin so soft from avon and have for many years. I dont use their insect one just their original one and it always worked and doesnt smell like chemical.

  • Avon do a few, both spray on and wipe on.

  • You can buy wrist bands that they can wear that ward off the mozzies.

  • You could dab some citronella oil on them. We bought it many years ago in a small bottle. Citronella is derived from a plant that looks like a geranium. You can actually grow it in your yard, break off a leaf and rub it on yor skin. If you have a safe place to put them out of reach from children and pets you can get citronella candles. Mosquitoes don’t like the smell of it.
If possible dress youselves in light coloured clothes. In a cool enough area it is a good idea if they can wear long sleeves / pants etc. They also like water so they will head for pot plant saucers, fish ponds, lakes, wetlands etc.

  • Hi, I tried mosquito bands last summer and they worked well for us. They’re brightly coloured wrist bands with citronella in them. They last for hours and when not used for long I’ve successfully put them back in the wrapping and reused them. I buy mine at Chemist Warehouse and the kids love the bright colours and haven’t objected to wearing them.
