Hello!

Just before Christmas 2020 I had to make the sad decision whether to put my Father into a Nursing Home as his health is now poor and its very hard for him to live at home as he lived by himself after the death of his wife my mother. Its been now a couple of months and he is doing alright there and being looked after properly

  • Does he enjoy where he is? My husband went to 3 different nursing homes – one was brand new and not enough to o; one was close to home so he could come home easily in his electric wheelchair; and he finally got to the third one which had facilities that he wanted including a gym and a pool; bible studies and church services even though I brought him home often, he was very happy there and enjoyed it most of the time.

  • It can be such a relief to know that the right care needs are being met.

  • It can be a sad and tough decision but ultimately the right care of the loved one is the should be the priority.

  • My mum has had 2 extended stays in an aged care facility due to poor health. I know for us personally it gave her the chance to recuperate and get back home again. Not having to worry about cooking, cleaning, laundry etc was a huge help for her. I hope your dad continues to adjust well and knows that it was the right thing to do for not just him but his family as well. I know I felt less stressed knowing my mum was being looked after by good people.

  • That is a tough decision to have had to of made. But probably a good decision to be where he has 24/7 Nursing care and food etc… I have seen many people who have been admitted from home with falls etc to my ward and it is hard to get some people to actually make that decision. I hope he is in a good nursing home for you. xxx

  • I think you’ve done the right thing for your father and if he is being looked after properly and he is looking well that’s all you want. I’ve worked in Nursing Homes and some families don’t visit them often and that makes them feel dumped and they get very depressed. It’s hard for families but I know some that tried to look after them at home and they have no life and get worn out.

  • It can be so hard to make the decision to put a loved one into a home, I’m so glad it has worked out and he is doing well. Hopfully he can make some new friends and have a good social life in there

  • I am very glad to hear it seems to be working out for your father. Sometimes it is the best thing you can do.

  • It’s a hard decision, no matter what ! I’m glad he’s doing well and is looked after properly. Sounds you made the right decision.

  • A tough decision but was for the best as I’m sure you had looked at all the options. Good on you for making a hard choice and glad he is doing well

  • I’m glad things are going well. It is a hard decision but needs to be done for his health and wellbeing.

  • I’m glad your father is being looked after. It is a very difficult decision to have to make. I would keep a close eye on him and I hope he stays healthy and safe. All the best.
