old sores are more likely to come up when you are under stress or have a weakened immune system and pregnancy will definitely do both to your body! I also get cold sores and have noticed this is pretty much spot in general, but especially during pregnancy. Get the cream on as soon as you feel the tingle.

check with your pharmacist about the pregnancy vitamins you are on, (If not talk about suitable ones), and see if there is a better one for you. Check also the suitability of L-Lysine in pregnancy with your pharmacist – as when not pregnant I found this combatted the cold sore quickly.
Remember your body is being bleached with nutrients for the bub – so you need to stay on top of this.

Once the baby is born, be extremely mindful not to kiss the baby with any sores or tingling you may be experiencing. It is hard, but also make sure you sanitize every time you touch your mouth during an outbreak as this can transpose onto the baby.

I have been lucky – i suffered badly before both children were born, but pregnancy seems to have sorted this out for me and (touch wood), I have only had the odd outbreak in 7 years.

My children know i cannot kiss them if i have any signs what so ever, and I give them extra hugs and cuddles instead. They know that if mummy has one (now that it is rare – whoo hoo), that she is run down, and they will make me rest and bring out their teddies to make me feel better.

Just remember, everyone has the cold sore virus – but some of us are the unlucky ones to actually break out with it.
