Hello!

I am an extremely busy Mumma of four, I work full time and barely find time for myself. I turned 40 at the beginning of the year and ever since then I have just felt like I need a major makeover. I feel like I dont apply makeup to suit me,(I have to wear it 5 days a week for work) my hair is so drab and really thin and I really find it difficult to find clothes to suit me that I don’t feel frumpy in. I would absolutely love to look in the mirror and be happy with skin I am in again. Help me please mumma’s xxx

  • Start with little changes, I’ve said similar to my hubby so I’m going to do a make up course as a treat to myself so I can learn what techniques suit me!

  • If your already eating healthy then Id start with getting your hair done. I have a great hairdresser that works from home so her hours are more flexible and her prices are always cheaper than a store.

  • I think you need to start with your health, if you improve your health with lots of fresh wholefoods, some exercise, yoga and walking are good, and make sure you are getting all the nutrition you need, you will feel better, look better and your hair will be healthy.

  • As long as you’re doing it for you and you alone, not to impress or please someone else, go for it

  • Who are you trying to impress? What work place requires you to wear make up?

  • With your hair, yet get a hair cut that you like but I suggest leave it for a couple of weeks to see if your current shampoo and conditioner are still suitable. I tried many different ones including those sold by hairdressers. In desperation I went to the Chemist Warehouse and asked for advice. I was able to get a basically natural one which I noticed a difference in my hair after the 2nd time I washed it. I don’t know if I am supposed to name brands but other people do. It is Klorane. It is made overseas but a lot of others are too. Some products of various types are brought to Aust. in bulk and re-packaged in Aust.

  • Start with your hair. Get some ideas from magazines of what you like and then get a hairdresser to advise whether it’s possible/suitable for you hair. Go for something quite simple so it’s quick and easy for you to manage. A new cut and/or colour will immediately change your appearance. Visit a cosmetics counter at a department store for some tips and advice, they are there to help – it’s their job! For clothes, scrutinise your friends (or strangers for that matter) and if you like the look of something – especially if it’s not something you would normally consider – find something similar in store and try it!

  • Ask the hairdresser to do what they think will suit you.

  • Plan a day for yourself and have a meal ready for the evening meal the day before washing and housework done the day before than wake up on Your Day Rest Facial massage and a new t shirt yes a t shirt just to remember Your Day. Xxx

  • Your local priceline will do makeup overhaul for you, find a good hairdresser to give you a new cut suiting your hair type but take a good friend shopping try on everything that you usually wouldn’t take pics on your phone and look with fresh eyes.

  • I think some shopping centres actually offer a shopping assistant type of service, maybe you should invest in something like that to just get a feel for what style of clothing fits your taste. I was in a rutt like that with my makeup so I started watching makeup tutorials on you tube when my baby was asleep and it has helped me a heck of a lot! You could probably even find some you tube videos on how to dress for your age and shape etc. I would honestly start with a hair cut and change of hair style though, I always find that getting my hair done makes me feel more confident and wanting to change my style to suit my new hair.

  • Have a browse around your local department store at the make up counters. See what you like and see if they offer makeovers. Generally pay and get whatever it cost in product. And have them explain as they go

  • I know how you feel… I agree with the other two comments in that I would try and get to a hairdresser and let them guide you in what will suit you (and is easy to do). And try and get some exercise – this can be done with the kids (ie a run at the park etc) or a 1/2 swim where you can switch off and find yourself again. Good luck :)

  • don’t worry your not alone! – try something like starting a capsule wardrobe with pieces that you love and feel happy in and then add new pieces to mix and match – know your colours (the colours that make you look (and feel) fresh and bright and add those colours into your wardrobe capsule.

Make about 1/2 an hour available to yourself each day if you can and allocate that to exercising time, it helps to envigorate you and make you feel good, hard after a long day of work I understand but by starting your day that way every day you are doing something good for yourself and enjoying some alone time!

    Good luck xo

  • Start with a new hairstyle. There are hairdressers that are mobile and will come to you if it’s difficult with the kids.
Search up best hairstyles for your type of hair. Might help with inspiration.
