Hello!

Does anyone have ideas to keep their little ones engaged, learning and active while we are at home?

  • open ended things like wooden blocks, building cubby houses with sheets, even making a toilet roll tower after buying a new pack. a toddler can even still help with cooking like helping put ingredients on top or a pizza or when making scrolls. They often love to help.

  • Following this…. as I am finding it hard to keep mine entertained. … especially beause he is so active!

  • Dance parties, Make some shakers from containers and rice and have a ‘music time’ to some favourite songs ro sing yourself. Give them a pot and wooden spoons and sit back with a cuppa! Eat a meal (morning/arvo tea or lunch) outside on a rug. Give them some old recylcing to play with (a washed out milk containter and lid to put on and off). Build a pillow pile and jump on it. Have fun yourself too!

  • Colouring in sheets. ABC TV has some great educational resources online that you can print out. Singing songs. Play dough. Cooking (though that might be a bit ambitious – maybe something like cutting out cookies).

  • My 3 year old had an absolutely blast coping my 8 year olds school project. All we did was get random things around the house and stick it on a piece of paper

  • I made a busy board today and my daughter loves it. If you search busy board on Pinterest or Google there will be plenty of photos to get inspiration from!!

  • We are playing as much as we can outside before the weather turns!

  • There’s lots of suggestions online. Unlimited! And I’ve recently seen a new web page regarding school at home that looks interesting

  • Paint with water and a brush on concrete.
Finger paint with shaving cream on the shower wall or on a big table.
Cut and paste with magazines and newspaper.
Have a mixing session. Put out plastic cups with rice, oats, a few sultanas, any other dry ingredients. Put out a funnel, bowls, spoons, measuring cups and let them create and mix.

    Make a blanket fort
Invest in some wooden blocks. My older daughters used theirs for years.
    Duplo
    Blow bubbles
Make a cardboard box into a doll’s bed

    Have fun :)

  • Make playdough and practice making different shapes.

Include your child in baking or cooking – get them mixing or cutting up food with a child-safe knife like the Kiddie Cutter.

Pick up boxes from places like bunnings for imaginative games like turning the box into a car or a play house or garage for the toys/cars.

Give the child a bucket and a cheap paintbrush to “paint the house” or “paint the fence” using just water.

Make musical shakers out of plastic containers, old kinder eggs and beans or rice. (Tape these up so kids can’t put the small things into their mouths.)

  • u can use flash cards or building toys and poems

  • My son loves the “car wash station” we set up outside with 2 buckets (obe with soapy water) a cloth/sponge and use marker cones to set out a wash area. He then collects any trucks that are in the yard and his bike and he washes them. Fun for him plus everything is clean again for a few mins.

  • Reading egg app is good
    Board games
    Cooking and baking
