Hello!

My daughter constantly gets her arms out of her seat belt no matter what I do. Just wondering how other mums have solved this problem.

  • When my child was young I purchased a harness that the seatbelt went through which secured him in place in the car seat. He was unable to get anywhere near the release button.

  • Try using a harness (or tightening it)
Rember its ok to be quite snug as its for your childs safety, as long as it isnt painful.

  • I would suggest tightening the straps. I’m assuming they’re still in a car seat with a harness? I’m having a hard time picturing a child escaping from a harness, unless it’s too loose

  • some kids are Houdini’s!! I think there are all sorts of harnesses and gizmos out there to aid you in your quest. good luck

  • Sounds to me like the harness isn’t tight enough. If they can get their arms out they may not be safe in a crash either. If in doubt get your tightness checked with the racv or similar.

  • Have you tried tying extra straps around her and the seat somehow? If you somehow make the straps more secure where she’s “escaping” it might stop her. Good luck with it, nothing worse then unsecured kids in the car :/

  • If they are getting out of the seat belt then you probably don’t have the belt tight enough. You are suppose to have the belt tight enough that you will have to loosen it to put the child back in. Have you ever heard of the 2 finger test? You should only be able to put 2 fingers between the belt & the child.

  • get a tablet and download free apps and they only play it in the car. kids just love touchscreens and she will be still, occupied and happy. get her fav character apps and she won’t be bored of it if it stays in the car (or inside & only used in the car)

  • Houdini strap ,or go see toddlers support &see if they have anything else u can try .

  • Houdini strap is the way to go!

  • Houdini strap! Amazing little things! My son did the same and he hated it once I put this strap on and he soon stopped escaping! I bought mine a baby warehouse store and they range between $10-$20. there are different types too…good luck!

  • I use a Houdini stop for my wriggly boys (1yo & 3yo) they are great. I got mine from baby bunting for $20ea. So easy to use, I have even used it on the pram & bike seat.

  • you can purchase a nifty little thing from toys are us. Not sure what it is called but it is basically material with press studs and it goes over the straps covering the middle part of their body – creating a barrier so they can not get their arms through. It’s about $15

  • I didn’t come across this with my first (now nearly 11 yrs) and I hope I don’t have to with my second (4 months) but I have had friends with small children who do this and they swear by the houdini belt also :) so I will get one of these if I do have this trouble with my boy when he’s old enough :)

  • Had the same problem, think I just said you will have no desert, lollies, toys, etc if you pull your arms out again. Then do it! Or you could try putting a jacket on backwards with their arms inside the jacket (not the sleeves) and tie the sleeves up so they can’t get them out. A little mean so maybe just ask them to be good.
