Hello!

So my 15 month old daughter hasn’t slept well since she was 4 months old. She has had issues with allergens which we are on top of and I thought we were turning a corner in her sleep as a result. She went from waking 7-10 times at night to 3-4 times. Then she started teething her first molars. She wakes 5-7 times a night but takes forever to resettle. She fights me with everything I try. Most times it takes at least 40 minutes to get her back to sleep. I have tried talking to doctors, lactation consultants, nurses and allergy specialists. Everyone either doesn’t know or doesn’t care. I have had more than 1 appointment canceled because on reading referrals they have decided it’s not important enough with coronavirus (even though we are regional) or they can’t help with anything. The last paediatrician referal was cancelled for both these reasons plus he had the nerve to say too many opinions won’t help. I’m getting to the end of my tether. I know her waking is a result of something I just don’t know what. This is not normal. It goes beyond just teething pain! It’s been going steadily down hill for 4 weeks now

  • My grandson was a terrible sleeper til age 2. He had issues with lactose intolerances and life for his parents was a nightmare for a long time


  • Oh I feel your pain. My first-born was a terrible sleeper til he was around 2. Turned out his first born was the same. Its not nice at all


  • You might have to see if there is anything else she could be allergic too. If you don’t already, you could try using a noise machine, night light or try co-sleeping. My daughter is 15 months as well, last month we had 2 sleepless nights because of her 6 new teeth that are coming up and down. She refused bottles and dummies and the only way I could get her to sleep was by laying her on my chest. Also if you feel comfortable with it try Nurofen for children.
    Sorry to hear what you are going through, I hope you both are doing ok. Remember to look after yourself too.


  • As you are breastfeeding have you changed your own diet at all eating or drinking anything different.
    I know somebody who accidentally did that and the only way her son would go back to sleep was if she carried him around or put him in a rocker. As soon as she stopped he woke up and screamed again. I was there that day so I was carrying him around too. Fortunately on that occasion it was during the day. The weather wasn’t suitable to use the stroller for a walk.


  • I was having trouble with my 18 month old sleeping. She’s never been a good sleeper. I wondered if her sleep issues might be needing to go to the toilet too often during the night. I ended up cutting out her bottle before bed (always thought a bottle before bed would help with sleep) and all of a sudden she sleeps through the night (unless she’s teething). Not sure if that would be any help to you?


  • We tried sleep school unsuccessfully. She naps for a.t least 2 hours each day. Sleeps in her own room in a sleeping bag. Her sleep improved when she was given her own room. But obviously not enough.


  • Oh my goodness. I definately feel your pain. Is there a sleep school where you are? I found that really helpful. Is she in your room or in her room. Is she in a sleep sack? Does she nap through the day. This was the big kicker for me. I thought, that babies napped throughout the day, and didn’t “force” sleep. As like when they fell asleep it was time for them to sleep….. without realising I was making my son more tired, and so his sleep was more disrupted overnight. Now, it is getting better, but it is a long slog. 2 – 3 hours awake, while watching for tired signs, and then nap time. through out the day. Your daughter still needs 1.5 – 2.5 hours of sleep during the day. Is she getting that?
