Hello!

I always just buy the bags from Big W. This Christmas, my child was given a gorgeous bowler bag . I wonder if this is acceptable at school?

  • Hm, I don’t think it’s as suitable. Sometimes the bags have quite a bit to carry (lunchbox, water bottle, library books) and it would be better if it can be carried on the back. I would use the bag for sport, beach, swimming or a sleepover

  • It’s probably acceptable, but do you want that kind of wear and tear on it? Or to keep it for more special occasions?

  • I don’t know what this is, hope you make a good decision

  • If it doesn’t strain his back and is easy to carry, as well as fits everything he needs for school, I don’t see why he couldn’t use it.

  • My boys have a school back pack which all kids use. I guess it comes down to what your happy with and if the school are happy with it

  • I guess if your child is happy and wants to use it, then I guess so.

  • If you don’t want to use it as a school bag, maybe it can be used to carry bathers. towels etc for swimming lesson if your child goes to them. If you have a little one it might be handy for a spare baby blanket if you use a stroller in cold weather, or a child who occasionally has an “accident” you could put spare undies / knickers in it in the boot. I’m sure you will find an alternative use for it fi you don’t use it as a school bag….. a larger snack bag for the playground??

  • A good backpack will last for years and you will not need to buy a new one every year – saves $.

  • Investing in a good backpack which supports the back and shoulders is a good idea as they are very sturdy and go the distance and care for little backs. It does depend on the age of your child and the school too.

  • I suppose so, it depends on the school and what they need to carry to and from school.

  • maybe ask the school – and remember, although it pains me to say it, kids want to fit in with their friends, so may prefer a backpack??

  • As long as if fits into the locker space provided at school it shoudnt be a issue, as well as be big enough to hold their books and lunch & water. Unless it a strict private school..

  • My opinion is these do the same damage as the older style school port/suit case, they make you lean to the side that is carrying the bag. A proper backpack with a chest and back harness are far better for posture and comfort.

  • It depends on the schools, but in general I’d say yes. On the other hand it doesn’t look very comfortable to carry, does it? A backpack looks easier to carry, in particular if your child needs to carry heavy stuff.
