Hello!

My 4 month old keeps rubbing her eyes, she favours one over the other…every so often she hurts herself because she doesn’t have proper control. I’m worried she is going to damage her cornea or is this normal and ok?

  • Yes, I would have checked it with the Gp too.

  • Please get her eyes checked. The doc should be able to diagnose it correctly.

  • It could be serious. Worth getting checked out. My 6yo son rubbed her eyes a lot, I just put him to bed earlier thinking he was tired. Ended up being allergic rhinitis and needed medication

  • My son did the same, I put it down to tiredness, ended up being allergic rhinitis from hay fever

  • I have never heard of this. But if she rubs all the time too then she is adding bacteria to her eye. Try talking to your doctor about it.

  • Sounds like she could have an allergy, itchy eyes is often a symptom. Does she have a rash, runny nose etc? All point to allergies

  • Put little cotton gloves or socks on her hands, if she scratching herself. Put little breast milk in eyes, keeps them clean. I did to clear baby conjunctivitis.

  • It could well be from pollen in the air. Its sources could be from various grasses including lawn, plants of any type in a garden you go near. As another reply states wattle is bad news for some – I get full blown hayfever from that, a few other noted foliage is pepper tree, bottle brush, wild or normal grains, seedy grass. Does you vacuum cleaner have a HEPA filter. Some vacuum cleaners let dust drift out of the back of them. It could be the type of soil you have. Has fertilizer or anything similar been used anywhere nearby? Could be from the type of material she is wearing, what it is washed in even if it is thoroughly rinsed. I know one adult who has problems with scents and other things in toilet paper(there is only one brand that doesn’t affect him, cleaning products of all types (they can only use a few different ones. He can’t use liquid soap at all, and only uses one brand of hand/bath soap.

  • I think it’s normal my daughter does it all the time especially when she’s tired, they sometimes go a little red but my doctor said its just a sign to tell me she’s tired or even teething.

  • Thanks for posting this, I have noticed my little one doing this quite a lot too. I’ll get it checked out.

  • I would definitely be talking to my GP about it!

  • hope your daughter’s face is much better now. Allergies are hard. I found that my daughter’s eczema was aggravated by sand in play areas.

  • I’m glad you got an answer from your GP

  • No idea but I hope other mums can give you the answers you need.

  • Just picked up on this story, so do hope she is doing much better. Allergens are such a pain, love to you all.
