Hello!

With recent deaths I am not only asking family but also friends to get the whooping cough vaccination, but am I asking too much?

  • Of course you’re free to ask and when they’re not vaccinated, you can ask them to keep distance from your baby

  • You’re absolutely allowed to ask them to be vaccinated, otherwise they can visit once the baby has been vaccinated.

  • I think asking is entirely reasonable, as is limiting access to baby till they’re old enough to have their first vaccinatiion.

  • I don’t think you’re being unreasonable at all. When it comes to protecting your children’s life, it’s never too much

  • Whooping cough is a horrible illness. I definitely made sure everyone who came in contact with our son in the early months before his vaccinations were vaccinated themselves. I don’t believe it selfish at all. It’s your right as a parent to ask anything of your family and friends in order to protect your child xx

  • anyone who doesn’t respect or understand that is not a good friend.

  • Yes and no. You can’t ask them to do that. You can ask if they’re vaccinated. If they’re not, tell them that you won’t be visiting them until the baby is then old enough to have their own vaccines.

  • Vaccinations are a social responsibility.

  • It’s absolutely fair! If they can’t spare the small amount of money to get the jab then you really don’t want them around your child

  • I don’t see the problem in asking, whether they do it or not it is up to them. You can always say that if they don’t have the vaccination then they will have to wait a while before they see your baby.

  • No harm in asking I say! I reposted a campain on facebook about whooping cough vaccines and I have one friend who has had severe reactions to immunisations and actually been advised not to have them (she contracted measles from the mmr last year) anyway she said she won’t visit me when I have my baby in Aug. I’m ok with that, my child’s safety is more important than seeing friends or offending anyone.

  • no. if they are going to have contact with your child, better to be safe than sorry.

  • Despite being vaccinated, my hubby and two of my children got whooping cough, presumably by contact with someone ill at a supermarket. Luckily they had a milder case because of the vaccine. I advocate that everyone should be immunised because it needs to be stamped out in the community. I think you are being very sensible asking everyone to protect themselves and those around them.

  • Definitely fair! We all have a responsibility to help keep everyone safe.

  • I think everyone should have it regardless of proximity to children. Do it as an advocate for all children & then decide how you feel about your friendship if they refuse.
