I have only ever dyed my hair once for my younger sister’s wedding. Is it safe to dye hair while being pregnant?

  • I honestly don’t know the risks, but I would take the safe option and not dye my hair.

  • Awesome thanks for all your answers!

  • yes i am a hairdresser lol. it is fine, it is up to you. I love being as natural as possible when preggo’s though so i would advise you to opt for foils instead. the dye doesn’t touch your scalp to get absorbed. Some people can get really sensitive skin when pregnant also so you might be irritated by the dye a bit more.

  • Ask your local hair dresser & GP.
I am not sure of any risks but my friend dyed her hair while she was pregnant (she was not aware at the time) & her hormones caused the dye to turn her hair bright green!

  • I have heard the same conflicting advice about some specialists saying yes and some saying no. I died my hair once I think, and I could not handle the chemical smell, even with my arm across my face, so asked for it to be washed out earlier than expected.

  • Studies vary – some say “yes” and some say “no”. I do not dye hair as I do not like chemicals. Maybe check with your GP and call some hairdressers too.
