  • I would always keep pets in a different room from the newborn when you can’t be there to supervise.

  • Personally I would wait till the child is about five or six years of age.

  • It depends a lot on the animal. I personally would probably say no, but I know that’s not a popular position/

  • I don’t think you should trust any pet with a newborn. Having said that I don’t think you should get rid of your pets when a new baby arrives either. you have to introduce them slowly. have your husband bring clothes home from the hospital so your pet knows the smell. Start restrictions before the baby arrives- eg if they are in your bed now but not allowed when baby is born start this rule when you are pregnant so its not another new thing. there are so many other things to get your pet used to the new baby. Maybe getting some advice from your vet will help.

  • It’s good to help build a healthy immune system. But if you have a small baby, never leave them alone with any pet. And you need. To be super vigilant with cats as the like to curl up on faces

  • You will know when its safe by using your own judgement and common sense. Young kids like to take the risk. Even my 9yr old got stratched last week by our cat. I had to explain reasons why from the cat’s point of view.

  • We had two cats and two dogs when my kids were born – never leave a dog alone with a child of any age and always keep the door shut when your baby is in her cot – we put a screen door on our kids rooms so we could hear them but the cats couldn’t get in. Now our kids adore our pets, especially the cats. Use common sense and all will be well!

  • I think you need to be very careful about cleanliness and jealousness.

  • It is totally safe hun (assuming if course your pet isn’t aggressive generally). Of course you shouldn’t leave yout baby and your pet alone together unsupervised, but otherwise I think you’ll find your pet will be fine around your newborn :)

  • Personally I wouldn’t trust any animal. Especially if they were your furbabies beforehand.

  • safe – but with supervision.

  • Do not have a cat in the house with any aged baby as a cat loves to curl up & go to sleep on a baby especially near other on the babies face

  • Depends on what sort of pets and how well it it behaves and adapts to change. As long as the animals are tamed, behaved, supervised and clean (as well as the house) it should be OK. Just make sure there isn’t too much fur and the animal isn’t too excitable.

  • This is him guarding my new little girl :)

  • We had our little inside dog with both girls, he’s fantastic. It’s a bit like having someone extra to watch out. He’s very protective of them doing thing they shouldn’t, he even barks to let me know when my 8yr old is in the pantry alone, he’s also one of her best mates :)
