Hello!

Hi MoM, we have an 18 month old little girl and are execting our second baby in about 7 months or so. We live in a two bedroom apartment and are trying to work out the sleeping situation for when bub arrives. How do I know when my toddler is ready for a big bed? Are there any signs I should be watching for? What ages have other kids moved to a big bed? Thanks, really looking forward to hearing what other Mums have experienced!

  • I think you could move your toddler into a big bed and perhaps get some safety rails if you’re worried.

  • We put our 3 kids in a bed bed when they were about 18 months old

  • We movedour eldest out of the cot when he was 20months as his sister was on the way. We didn’t want him to feel like she had taken the cot from him, we wanted to do it a few months before she arrived. We ended up putting his new mattress on the floor for a couple of weeks so he could get used to the different size then we put the frame up. Putting the bed in a corner with a bed rail helps too, I think, as they have been sleeping in a cot with four walls so it is a little familiar.

  • For all of my kids we have done a big bed after or around their 2nd birthday.

  • any time from 12 months I think is fine

  • Thank you for asking this question! My daughter can’t keep a blanket on – she’s in a sleep sack and not sure how we’ll transition to the big bed with a blanket!

  • when they don’t want to be in their cot ad cry at seeing it. when they lay on your bed to sleep because they chose that.

  • You will be fine!

  • hope you find a way

  • 2 years old for our daughter to go into her big bed

  • How did you go? Did you change to a big bed?

  • I think if you have a bed rail up then I can’t see the problem going to a big bed at that age.

  • Hope you found the answer and were able to transition your girl to a big bed smoothly, if thats what you chose to do.

  • I hope you were able to find an answer from the valuable tips given by other mums
