Looking for a healthy take away lunch. Is Subway a good choice?

  • It can be healthy with salad and lean meat.


  • It has to be healthier option than McDonalds, Kfc or Hungry jacks.. Just stick to a six inch sub not the foot long.. with water..


  • I believe it depends on the type of bread and the fillings you choose.
    I try to choose in season salad vegetables and grated cheddar chesse with either low fat mayonnaise or no dressing.
    It also depends on your choice of drink

  • It think it depends what you have. When I’ve dieted in the past I’ve often had just the Veggie Delight sub which is cheese and salad only. I’ve generally been successful when serious about losing weight so my assumption is that it is a decent option. Just watch out for the salty meats and calorie rich sauces.

There is plenty of evidence that on average it is just as bad as McDonalds with calories and salt content (see http://www.takepart. com /article/2013/05/17/ breaking-subway-just-unhealthy-mcdonalds) and some specific advice about what combinations to avoid (//www.cheatsheet. com/health-fitness/ sandwiches-you-should-not-order-from-subway.html/ ?a=viewall). So you might be able to eek out something that was ‘okay’ but surely better to prepare at home using ingredients that were just right for you.
