Hello!

I have read quite a bit of conflicting information about the Paleo Diet. I was wondering what the ladies on Mom think.

  • I think if you have the determination and dedication to be able to stick with it, paleo is a great thing for your health and well being. It can be restrictive tho, so hard to stick at. I don’t agree with the no sunscreen and bone broth for newborns, both pushed by Pete Evans as paleo

  • I think it depends how extreme you want to go with it. As far as I can see, it’s eating fresh food, cooked from scratch. Can’t best that for health

  • I’m not very familiar with it but it sounds natural so yes

  • I think it’s a good thing health wise. But I also think it’s very restrictive and would be hard to stick with fir prolonged periods

  • It can be very hard whilst trying to cook meals for the rest of the family has been the feedback I received from someone who’s wife was doing the diet.

  • I agree with its not a diet but more a lifestyle!

  • I think it has helped a lot of people but like someone else mentioned people did not eat paleo sweets when the world began.

  • Such a lot of interesting answers! thank you for tour responses.

  • Mum 129435, you really hit the nail on the head. Seems to be just another ‘promise the world’ fad diet. Where are the proven health benefits? A balanced healthy diet, teamed with a moderate exercise regime seem a much better idea, however to each their own. I won’t be pursuing this.

  • I wouldn’t follow it especially for kids. It has far too much meat in it and does not truely reflect what people ate 10,000 years ago and even if it did they had far different lifestyles as well as far shorter lifespans and many health defects. A balanced died with plenty of fresh vegetables, with meat, fruit and grains in moderation. You will always get oils and other micro nutrients just cooking a variety of dishes. Also don’t stress yourself out trying to be healthy every single meal. Sometimes if all you can make is toast for dinner that is ok in my book.

  • Mum 132301 I am inclined to agree with you re this Paleo diet. although it is based on the ancient cave man diet before grains came into force to a degree. But Honestly I think a bit of everything in moderation is best and eat food that is near as possible to nature ie unprocessed foods.

  • I really despise fads and I feel this is one of them. If you want to feel better then eat fresh produce. A little bit of everything. I worry about the health impacts this “diet” will have later in life for the people following. I used to like Pete Evans but his love for this way of eating has changed my mind.

    Don’t flurry to the fad!

  • June 11 that is what concerns me. Some that I know that love Paleo say that is easy if you get constipated just take laxatives – end of problem. This could be creating another health issue!

  • to me its not a diet but a lifestyle, a way of living. I do not follow the paleo lifestyle, however I do enjoy some of the meals. I have a paleo cook book which has some wonderful meals. I have also visited my local paleo café which is also fantastic. However, I do love my grains, carbs and dairy and so I will never switch over.

  • What is the best way to stop my rubbish bins smelling. I wrap scraps. I seal nappies in a plastic tie of bag. I seal all my rubbish and wash my bins out. .. But still my bin stinks …
