Hello!

Suitable dual purpose capsule/car seat for Grandparents to transport their young grandchildren, as I will be babysitting within two months of the baby being born, but not within a home. I will be near where my daughter works.

  • Whatever decision you make please ensure it is installed correctly. My nephew is 8 years old and is still able to use his booster seat within safety regulations.

  • Capsules can be taken out of the car easily and attached to a compatible pram, whereas car seats can’t. A baby will only fit in a capsule for so long though. Maybe speak with your daughter to see what they will be using :)

  • Why don’t you ring Kidsafe and ask? They know it all about car seats, and have no particular agenda except safety.

  • Capsules certainly have their pros. Unlike other types of car seats, capsules can be easily taken in and out of the car and used as a carrier or attached to a pram to minimise disturbing your baby. However they will have to be comparable with the pram and you only can use them for a relatively short time till baby is outgrowing it.

  • Check if your daughter is using a travel system, it’s a capsule that clips out of the car and into a stroller for easy transport and you can just get an extra base for it, that way you could get a car seat that converts to a booster that will last the full 7yrs. Something to consider.
