Hello!

How to keep a 2 year olds stools loose? We have to keep Miss 2’s bowel movements soft at all times due to being born with no bottom and a reconstruction at 8 weeks. Things not going well and she is in Randwick children’s. She can have a normal diet but no raw carrot or corn (these can cause blockage in bowels for toddlers as they do not chew properly). Anyway, we give fresh pear, apples, bananas, strawberry, prunes, sultanas and she drinks water. Big fruit eater this little one! Has anyone got any other fresh ideas to keep her bowel motion loose. Just looking for advise really. Doctor has already has her on medicine which is changed every other month as her body adjusts. Helpful comments only please.

  • Make sure you give plenty of fiber and liquids. My youngest had hard stools when she was younger and did well on kiwi and prunes and I would add chia seeds to her wheetbix.
Since she has a condition I would talk to her Pediatrician.

  • Avoid bananas these can cause constipation maybe prune juice as well.

  • I always cooked the kids food and drizzled good quality olive oil on their food. We found that is a great way to keep stools soft and regular. A tea-spoon a day will be all you need.

  • It sounds like you are doing everything you possibly can. I haven’t had dan experience like this but perhaps a dietician could help

  • there are some good comments here

  • I think you are doing the best you can, maybe ask the chemist for something but otherwise you sound like you are giving your child all the high fibre foods that will help them

  • Did you find a way?

  • hope it’s all going well!

  • maybe dried apricots, pineapple or paw paw

  • Hope she is doing okay and some answers here have helped.

  • Lots of water. Hope Everything works out :)

  • How are you going with it now?

  • We were told olive oil is great to keep stools loose, 2 teaspoons a day mixed with either drink or food. And surprisingly its working.

  • We use prune juice, pear juice and linseed meal. If none of that works we use parachoc

  • prune juice works wonders and drinking plenty of water. its simple so people forget
