Hello!

I know there is some debate about how long you should and shouldn’t breast feed a child. But I am interested to know different mums opinions on this matter. I was reading up that you can breast feed up to 7 years due to its health benefits for child and mother, but for me I think that’s a bit long. I do agree to let the child make some decision however on when to stop but 7 years seems a bit too long for me. I think id be willing to go to 2 years max. How do other mums feel towards this subject?

  • Only a few days unfortunately.

  • Three months for both .
I fist started to drop the pre-bed feed and then slowly the others followed. I believe that with my 1st I was on the road to post natal depression and ceasing breastfeeding was like a rainbow ???? erupted over my head

  • I breast fed both my boys for 12 months. They weaned themselves. I intend to breast feed my daughter who is 4 months hopefully for at least the same amount of time.

  • I am still breastfeeding and my daughter is 13months. World Health organization recommends 2 years to get the maximum benefit for your child. Me and my husband are advercate for breastfeeding. Our daughter hasn’t been sick not like all the bottle fed babies born around the same time

  • I am still breastfeeding my second and he’s 14 months now and doesn’t seem to want to stop yet so i’m just going to keep going and see what happens if he is still breastfeeding by 2 years i would probably try to wean him by then

  • I breastfeeding for 18 months for the first and five and a half weeks for the second. I think 18 months is a good length of time but everyone is individual with work, and other children etc.

  • 6 months because my daughter was losing weight due to reflux from an allergy so required special formula, otherwise I would have continued until 12-18months

  • 13 mths and currently 6 months, I think 1 yr is great!

  • First child 14 months, 2nd child 13 months and poor third child only 9 months. Do what’s right for you and your bub.

  • I was comfortable to stop at 18 months, but at the end of the day it is a personal decision about what is right for you and your child.

  • I BF for 12 months … In this time they started taking solids and so they weaned off for themselves.

  • It’s totally up to you but I stopped at 12 months when he was eating enough to get proper nutrition.

  • I think breastfeed for as long as u feel comfortable..but also in moderation. A 7yr old is way to big to be lifting up mummies top.

  • there are some good comments here

  • i think i would go to about 1 years old maybe,
