Hello!

My daughters are 4 and 6 years old and both have long, thick hair. I struggle to keep it under control. I’ve tried lots of different shampoos and conditioners but none seem to help. Any suggestions?

  • use hair serum in their hair – only a little bit or it will look oily.

  • keep the ends trimmed and free from split ends and find a good leave in conditioner or spray in conditioner

  • Avon have a great kids spray on conditioner. It’s great for kids and adults. It’s in a yellow bottle, watermelon fragrance I think.

  • Have you tried using moisturising treatments? I used those and it helped :) goodluck!

  • Argan oil really helps me. Although if I apply it after the shower I find it leaves my hair a tad too oily. It’s best if I apply at the end of my shower, to the lengths & tips of my hair, then rinse out just a little. Have tried a few different brands – love the Aldi one :)

  • Use a good conditioner in the shower, and a leave in conditioner afterwards.

  • My daughter had waist length hair that matted like fur bulls. We squeezed hair dry with a towel, without rubbing. Then put a leave in conditioner on, then with a wide tooth comb combed it through starting from the bottom and working upwards

  • when washing their hair and after cinditioning leave strait and squeeze out excess water do not towel dry by rubbing (into a knot) but smooth towel strokes keeping hair strait and tangle free, brush through then towel dry few times like this and it does make a difference

  • I always make sure I apply plenty of conditioner/oil after washing the hair of my daughter and leave that sitting long enough under a shower cap while in bath.
We also directly brush her hair when you comes out of bath and most of the time I braid her hair which really helps.

  • my daughter had the longest hair to her bum crack but it was a pain to brush. ive always made sure that my daughter brushes her hair straight after washing her hair as sometimes I see its less hussel brushing the next day. when I dry her hair, every now and then here and there I will put a small 10cent size of conditioner in her hair…..another thing when her hair is dry, I brush her hair from the bottom first, brush the middle and bring it to the bottom and work your way up. another less pain for the child. finding the right brush is another thing. I must make sure that my daughter does put conditioner in her hair if she plans on washing her hair even if she accidently wet her hair, I need her to put conditioner in so its easy to brush her hair out.
I would like to know what other people have said. my daughter has now got her hair cut to her shoulderblades…I actually like her hair longer.

  • Some hairdressers advised me to do a undercut and this worked as well as using a good grooming oil or leave-in-conditioners. I ended up keeping the girls hair at a manageable length as well. You will know what suits you all best.

After shampooing your hair apply warm oil to the roots of your follicles, and then wrap your head in a hot towel. Argan oil is the usual go-to for deep oil conditioning treatments, however, you can also use macadamia oil or even coconut oil for a natural shine.
Warm oils help to repair hair cuticles without affecting the moisture of the strands. This also helps with preventing damage and tangles to your hair.
ALSO Princess Catherine’s lovely locks are in the news again so this may also be of help:-)
Britain’s Duchess of Cambridge uses a $20 hairbrush to keep her locks looking gorgeous.
The 34-year-old royal is famed for her bouncy brunette hairstyle and now her stylist, Richard Ward, has revealed her secret – a hairbrush called the Tangle Angel. He told People magazine: “I always brush the hair through with my antibacterial and anti-static Tangle Angel.”
Hope this helps and wishing you and your lovely daughters happier hair times. :-)

  • I would recommend a hair treatment once every two weeks to keep the hair soft and healthy.

  • I have long but fine hair and I battle with the tangles also.
One thing that I was taught to do was when conditioning my hair I always towel dry my hair first and then apply the conditioner other wise a bulk of the conditioner just slides off the hair with the water.
Ive found that hair oils are amazing and just 2 pumps of a good hair oil into the palm of my hand and then run my hands through the lengths of my damp hair and all the tangles vanish.

  • I would stick with a good conditioner, and then once brushed, keep hair braided to avoid it knotting again.
