Hello!

I am after wome lunch box ideas for my truck driving husband. He drives locally so he is home everynight, he is totally sick of sandwiches which I don’t blame him but he is a bit of a fussy eater & doesn’t ead salads etc. He really needs something that doesn’t need heating & is easy to eat while driving.

  • Men that dont eat salads are the worst! – You just have to convert them! Great start that he wants totake lunches though, and not just buy something every day!
You could try cold pizza, meat and salad wraps, Sushi Rolls, ‘Pimped” potato salad (potato salad with baked salmon, Bacon and egg, Quiches, Stuffed potatoes, Rice noodle salads,

  • Scotch eggs or arrancini rice balls are easy to pick up and eat and are very filling. Or maybe savoury muffins with chopped up veggies cooked into them.

  • Just came across this question and definitely going to use some of the ideas for my husband’s lunch. Thanks!

  • If you give him hot soup, stew or something similar in a thermos on a food flask so he can eat it with a spoon. They have a wider opening. He can stir it up so that is an even consistency.

  • Thank you very much for posting this question, the answers gave me some inspiration.

  • Muffins are always yummy. Quiche/ Mini quiches are great and don’t need to be heated. In a similar vein, frittatas can be loaded with meat/ veg and yummy eggs.

  • Soup is great this time of the year in a thermos with a crusty roll.Delicious!

  • Maybe try a casserole or stew in an insulated food cup. Heat up the casserole then Heat the inside and outside of the thermos with boiling water, then add the casserole. they’re all different but many keep hot up to 8 hours. What about an antipasto style plate for him. big sticks of cucumber, pickled onions, gherkins, olives, nuts, chicken or metwurst.

  • men can be such pains when it comes to lunches, id be happy if someone made me a sandwich everyday! Maybe try wraps or cold dishes like fried rice,

  • Rice paper wraps contain anything like vegetables, rice, meat, egg, seafood. Arancini balls are filling, sushi rolls.

  • You were right to try the salad path. After a whole day of clogging his body up with animal products, saturated fats & God knows what else, his gut & body organs need a good clean out. The problem with salads, apart from their “girly” image, is they are poorly made & after the first mouthful you feel like it’s an up hill battle to finish. Coming soon I will post The Best Raw Vegan Certified Organic Salads ever made. They take a long time to make, but most of the time goes into letting things soak & marinate. I thrived on them for years. These are salads of great substance purpose-built for Real Men. They clean out, fortify & develop a man. Just as men have been destroyed (by food poisoning, etc!) in the past from the kitchen, by that same kitchen, so can men be built!

  • Salmon quizza recipe on this site looks good. Banana choc energy muffins too

  • Hubby has a little cooker that plugs into your cigarette lighter socket – I can make bulk meals, put them in a foil container and freeze them, that way he has a varied selection and he just pops it in the cooker to reheat it when he needs it. The cookers are only about $40 from Dick Smith :) Short of buying one of those though, I make cold rice dishes with cooked veg and chopped chicken breast in them with a dressing on them as well. Very filling too. I also make up a little container that has 2 compartments and put bikkies one side and sliced cheese, salami and carrot sticks in the other with a little pot of dip. Another split container, with yoghurt in the bottom and a good cereal in the separate pot on top. I’ve recently started making my own cheese and bacon puffs which are apparently even better the next day. I add onion and herbs to the adults version ones. Gotta keep out truckie hubby’s healthy and looked after while they are on the road :)

  • Wraps and savoury muffins for warmer months.
Stews and pasta for colder months.

  • *Baked/BBQ’d chicken (legs, wings or even shredded – they taste great cold!)
    *savoury fritters
*hot food (soups, pasta, stews, chilli and rice dishes etc) served in a food thermos – you can actually get a “food jar” thermos on ebay (link provided below)
    *cheerios
*noodles (pack hot water in a thermos so all he has to do is add the hot water to the noodle cup, let it sit for a few minutes and it’s ready to go)
    *quiches and frittatas
*Corned Silverside (or some other chunk of meat or cold slices – had a roast beef meal the night before? Slice some chunks and add with a more manly style salad like roasted veggies that can be eaten cold and thick slices of bread like french loaf or crusty dinner rolls)
*Savoury muffins (a fave here is the egg muffins… break an egg into each pan of a muffin tin, add cut up tomato, capsicum, bacon bits etc – get as creative as you like with them, they take roughly 10mins to cook at about 180 degrees… and you can make a batch of them to be eaten over 3 days or so – store excess in the fridge… as for the savoury muffins, they are similar to the normal type, but you’re adding veggies, bacon or cold meats and cheese etc)
*Hard boiled eggs (or egg salad)
    *Pies/pasties
*For a different take on a salad, pack a “Taco” Salad (you can even throw in tacos or corn chips too)
    *Burritos
*Another take on sandwiches – try subway style sandwiches… add some meatballs and fillings to a long roll
    *Tuna Mornay

Ummm hopefully there’s something there on the list to help… here’s the link to the ebay listings for the vacuum food jar thermos:
