Hello!

Our daughter is 8 years old and has been gifted make up by her aunty. Are there any businesses in Brisbane that might offer a workshop my daughter can attend for age appropriate make-up application?

  • I remember I gave my daughter a make up suitcase at that age too. She and her friend were always experimenting, she wouldn’t really go on the street with make up (which I was happy with). She learned the most from YouTube. And now at age 17 she still watches YouTube for make-up

  • Gosh, make up for an 8yo, not sure I would be comfortable with that. Each to their own I guess, at least you are looking for professional age appropriate application

  • I would google it and give her your own personal advice as well!

  • If you don’t find one there would be some great age appropriate YouTube channels or her to learn

  • YouTube is the only option that i can think of too.
I personally don’t see an issue with an 8 year old playing around with make up. I imagine these days it’s quite common..

  • I am pretty sure there are some online classes, but I have never seen anything for make-up for kids. If you’re okay with it, maybe it is just a case of letting her work it out the same way we had to – blue shadow, butterfly clips and an insane amount of blue liner haha. Good luck with it all, my 9 and 8 year old girls are just starting to ask about make up now.

  • I think you are the best person to help your daughter play with makeup at 8 years old. You could watch a Youtube tutorial and be her model just for fun. Teaching her how much is too much and just have fun. She will love the interaction with you and if she has a friend have a make-up party doing each-others hair and nails is just fun.

  • I think your daughter is too young to be using professional make-up. You can teach her how to use lipstick or lip gloss and make it a fun lesson but perhaps tell her when she is older she can learn from a professional.

  • YouTube is great for classes! What I was always told was less is best (expecially for young kids) teach her how to put on a bit of lipgloss and eyeshadow but not heavy colours. Just type in on YouTube kids make up tutorials and they will come up with heaps of options

  • At 8 years of age make up is generally for play and dress ups.

  • Sorry, I don’t know any – but do you first need to think about whether makeup is appropriate for an 8 year old anyway? I would have reservations about that to start with.

  • You can always find so much free information on the internet these days. Try that first! It old be a fun thing you can both do together

  • There are probably some Youtube tutorials

  • Places like Mecca are great for short mini lessons on either eyes, lips or face.

  • In my opinion, either just let her play with it…. or decline the gift. Ive never worn a lot of makeup and i feel kids dont really get to be kids these days.
