I think once you start putting your child into activities you will start making new friends. Things like swimming or dancing and the like, you’ll meet new people.
Join online Community Groups – not only a good place to meet people who live locally, but a wealth of information for recommendations of places to go and see, local doctors, vet, etc. Join a class to learn a new hobby, or refine an existing one, that way you meet people with the same interests.
Joining community groups and perhaps doing some classes your interested in could help. Do some free work at the school canteen, join the parent and teacher committee, it’s at these places you’ll meet new people and make new friends.
We moved 12 months ago and started chatting to some people online. We joined a playgroup but the best thing I did was join a large scale bootcamp – I have made some great friends!
My advice is not to get caught up in any cliques, be nice and put yourself out there. What interests do you have, look at community/bss page and put a post up in one of these.
If you have kids, it’s a lot easier. By going to school and bringing kids to activities, you get to know people. Otherwise following some course could be an idea. They often do something at local libraries or community centres.
If you are going to work you will meet people there, otherwise join a playgroup, Mothers group etc, get involved in the community and as you meet new people you will make friends.
