Hello!

Hi! I am currently living in Newcastle, NSW and my husband (who is a member of the defence force) was just told that it looks like we’ll be moving to Queensland (Amberley) mid year, but we won’t get a confirmation (posting order) until end of April/May. I am not sure how to plan everything now. My obstetrician is here in Newcastle and the plan was to go to NPH. How do I go with planning my baby’s birth in Queensland now? Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any help is appreciated.

  • Your hubby is part of the defence force, they look after their members, I’m sure it won’t be hard fir you to relocate and find a new alternative for your pregnancy

  • Aw, not an easy one as moving is already stressful on itself. I moved interstate in July with 4 kids. I wasn’t pregnant like you, but have 2 kids with special needs. One has T21 and sees 5 specialist and 2 therapists and the other one has mental health issues and sees 3 specialists/therapists. What helped me is to investigate before the move what the options are at the new locations and get as much referrals& transfers done before the move. Organisation was for me the key.

  • What a dilemma, moving whilst pregnant, I don’t envy you at all! But….I would probably have a chat to my current medical professionals, see what suggestions they have, many try get it organised before moving date. Then you’re ready to roll

  • Get them to start now transfer files etc. :)

  • yeah i hope that you dealt with it ok. i too had to move 4 weeks before bub was due. hubby took care of everything so all i had to do was endure the long car ride lol

  • Be extra careful, good luck!

  • I hope you were able to work out where your baby would be born and were able to get assistance from the ADF.

  • You can get all your records transferred to a Dr to where you are relocating to. You may even be able to get help through the defence, they do take good care of the defence families.

  • If the defence is moving you not much choice. I feel for you especially if this is your first. The advice depends on you situation. Get your medical notes transferred. Ask your doctor for a recommendation, maybe go up one weekend and check it all out prior to moving so you can get organised.

  • Hoping all went well, yet another reason why Australia needs more uniform policies

  • there are some good comments here

  • that would be so hard when you due to give birth…. how did it go

  • would like to know how you went with it all

  • Have just reread your letter. Amberley Airbase is just outside of Ipswich so you will probably going to Ipswich hospital. Our airforce relatives and other family members have all had their children at Ipswich, so you will be fine.

  • Wow, all the best, execellent advice from Fruitwood. You haven’t said where you are transferred to. My neice’s husband is stationed in Townsville and they had a great birth experience with their daughter. Townsville is so Army friendly. Here in Brisbane, the hospitals are all excellent, You will be fine. Ask your doctor for a referral to a specialist or hospital etc.
