Hello!

My son has a birthday party to attend today for a school friend. How much does everyone spend on a gift? I normally spend about $30 as it is only primary school, but I’m curious as to what others think.

  • I absolutely spend less, unless it’s a very special friend. It’s about the gesture, not the amount.

  • I usually spent $20 in primary school and am spending around $40 now in high school.

  • $20 will get a nice present. Can add up if you spend a lot more and go to a few parties.

  • Around $10

  • I spend around $20 on a gift, you can get an amazing gift for $20 and sometimes you can have birthday parties every weekend for several weeks in a row, it can get quite expensive!

  • $20 is usually my max for general class friends… for special or his nest mate id go up to $35/40

  • I usually spend a max of $20. But I like to stock up on great deals during the toy sales so often we give a gift that’s worth a lot more than that.

  • $20 – $25 is my limit…….unless I know the family really well then I will go up to $50.

  • $20 is my limit usually, sometime up to $30 for family

  • The way i budget my gifts are,,, if its at a playcentre.. which is $16 per child.. then ill double it and spend AT LEAST $32 on the gift… If they’re ordering platters for adults to eat as well, then i add a bit more $… My 6 year old is usually the one thats invited and i bring my 4 year old too.. i pay for his entry, his food and he’ll usually bring in a small gift too , like a book. as hes become friendly with my 6 year olds friends too.

If im really close with the mum, i spend $40-$50..

Although i have to admit, i may spend those amounts because i’m embarrassed to buy a crappy gift. and i just feel awkward walking in with something im not happy with.

  • I usually spend $20-30. You can get a reasonable present for that .

  • $20 maximum; as all of the parties/presents quickly add up to lots of $$$$.

  • 15, maximum 20 dollars

  • $2O or under, more if an outing is included as this can be quite expensive.

  • I have a limit of $25 for school friends, though at my sons birthday this year most people spent around the $20 mark.
