Hello!

How do other mums clean drink bottles? I have tried hand washing and putting them through the dishwasher but I just can’t seem to get that stale water smell out of them. They’re fine for a month or two but then they just get nasty and I find myself throwing them out. Any tips on how to freshen them up? We have a few of those BPA free ones and the stainless steel varieties.

  • I agree that drying completely is a must and also prefer to store bottles away without their lid.

  • I just make sure to air them out after washing so they are dry

  • I handwash but I also dry them on the inside with a paper towel before packing them away for the day. So far I haven’t had any problems.

  • I also use Steradent but after about 4 months I tend to throw them out as the smell just lingers.

  • Baking soda with vinegar ! And sometimes I clean them with nappysan or steradent !

  • Normally I put a drop of dishwashing detergent in the bottle , put some water in it and give it a good shake. To really clean it especially if you put milk or strong liquid in it , its probably best to use a bottle brush ( like the ones you wash baby bottles in ) . I bought a long brush from a bargain shop for $2 and its a nice purple colour. Also I find cheap plastic smells bad quickly and really it better to toss it out after drinking it once as bacteria can still be inside . My daughter keeps refilling the Coles or Select brand water ones. Yuk . Good luck

  • air them out well but sometimes they do get that smell

  • Milton’s bottle sanitiser as some bottles do not stand up in a dishwasher properly.

  • Hot soapy water and a baby bottle brush!

  • Wash in hot soapy water and thoroughly rinse and then dry. Do not put them away or store them away until they are completely dry.

  • I’ve heard that denture tablets work well.

  • Yes to the mum who said denture tables – they’re marvellous.

  • I use one of those bottle brushes that you use for baby bottles, with hot soapy water a, then rinse and then say once a month use the liquid baby sterilising liquid. Also make sure they are completely dry and the lid or spout thingy is open when storing

  • I haven’t tried this yet, but I recently heard that using denture tablets (the ones that clean them overnight in water) can help – just fill the bottle, drop a tablet in, and leave them overnight. Then rinse well.

  • dishwasher and then let them thoroughly dry
