I have severe osteo-arthritis at the base of both thumbs, and it causes horrendous pain. I also have marked loss of function. I’m waiting to have surgery on both hands, and apart from pain-killers, the only thing that helps me is wearing splints on each hand. At least with splints, I have some strength in my hands, and can do some normal activities. If I were you, I wouldn’t let bub sit on your hands, and I would seek a physiotherapist, with a view to treatment and possible splints being made for you.
